On January 28, 2025, Professor Shigeki Wada provided a report on the Mukaishima Workshop. Please take a look!

The Setouchi Carbon Neutral International Collaborative Research Center operates three field facilities: the Mukaishima Marine Biological Laboratory, Takehara Fisheries Research Centre, and Miyajima Natural Botanical Garden. While these facilities are located some distance from the main campus, each plays a unique role in research and education, contributing to the distinct characteristics of our center.

This time, we held a workshop at the Mukaishima Marine Biological Laboratory, one of these key facilities.

In the morning, participants toured the Mukaishima Marine Biological Laboratory facilities. The visit included research equipment such as laboratories, outdoor water tanks, and research vessels, as well as educational facilities like practical training rooms. Additionally, they explored accommodations used by students and researchers for extended study and research activities. Throughout the tour, the unique characteristics and specialized initiatives of the coastal facility were introduced.

In the afternoon, progress reports were presented on the integrated research support projects that were selected through the 2024 public call for proposals by our center. The presentations covered a wide range of topics, including terrestrial plants, marine ecosystems, energy management, technologies for utilizing beneficial organisms, and methods for cultivating and managing CO₂-absorbing organisms. The session featured active discussions and a lively Q&A exchange.
